In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
I was sitting on a rock with my feet submerged in the rushing water from the stream at the base of Nevada Falls in Yosemite National Park. It was beautiful!
After a grueling hike, I was ready to fully take in God’s creation. Beauty was everywhere!
I was with my oldest son and my daughter. We split up for a time to reflect, or at least that’s what I was doing.
I couldn’t help but sing songs of praise to God for His stunning creation. I sang hymns such as “How Great Thou Art” and “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” and praise songs like “Indescribable.”
While sitting there, worship came naturally.
What about you? How do you worship God the Creator?
Let’s look at some ways.

How Do You Worship God the Creator?
We worship God because He is worthy. He is worthy to receive glory and honor and power because He made all things. And they exist because it was God’s will to create the world (Revelation 4:11). His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, can be clearly seen through His creation (Romans 1:20). How you worship God the Creator will generally include several things: thanking and praising Him for the beauty and complexity of all He has made, and acknowledging His eternal power and divine nature. Additionally, you will view yourself rightly and refuse to worship the created.
The Name of Creator God
When God created the world, He revealed Himself as Elohim. He is the One True God in three persons.
As Creator, He made all things and sustains them by His eternal power. He lives outside of time and space and is far above His creation.
You only need to read Job 38-42:6 to see God’s transcendent greatness.
At one point at Nevada Falls, I remember asking God how people could look at His creation and not instinctively know there was a Creator? And that He was bigger and more powerful than they were.
Why didn’t they even wonder how the mountains came to be? Or the rivers and the waterfalls? How could they look at the stars in the sky on a clear night and not think about how they got there? Why didn’t the beauty of nature cause everyone to praise the One who created it?
Then I remembered that I used to be that person. I knew God created the world, but it didn’t move me.
I remember standing in my front yard, thinking about the beginning of trees and grass and how that alone told me there was a God. I couldn’t do it.
However, in the summer between my junior and senior years of high school, I went to Jackson Hole, WY. There I saw the Tetons.
And for the first time, I was amazed by what God created. On that trip, I fell in love with the mountains and stood in awe of the God who created them.

What in God’s Creation Moves You to Worship Him?
Some people feel that way about the woods or the ocean, and I get it.
The woods are peaceful and full of trees and plants. It feels like a sanctuary.
Once, when visiting San Francisco, we went to Muir Woods. The trees were massive, and at some places along the path, signs indicated we were entering a quiet zone. Some signs even referred to the area as a sanctuary.
I saw God’s glory there.
The ocean is vast and seems to go on forever. I went to the ocean a few times as a child on the coast of Maine.
What I remember most is how cold the water was and how hot the sun was. I don’t know if my dad knew about sunscreen, but we didn’t use it. I got the worst sunburns.
Despite that, I loved it! I loved the sand dunes and spending time with my dad and siblings. Unfortunately, I didn’t give much thought to God being the Creator.
As I already said, it wasn’t until I saw the Teton mountains in 1977 that I was in awe of God as Creator.
So, what in creation moves you to worship God?
What Scripture Says
Scripture says God has made it evident through His creation that He exists. That people can see His eternal power and divine nature. They are without excuse.
Romans 1:19-20 Since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made so that men are without excuse.
Scripture also says that God’s creation declares His glory.
Psalm 19:1-2 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.
Worshiping the Creator, Not the Created
Creation speaks loudly of a Creator God that is greater than we are.
And if He is greater, doesn’t it make sense that we wouldn’t fully comprehend Him or His ways and thoughts?
Isaiah 55:8-9 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
However, we can still know He is bigger and more powerful than us. We can view ourselves rightly instead of putting ourselves on the same level as God.
We know we can’t put God on our level because creation tells us He is eternal and divine. And when we try to make God in our own image, we begin to worship the created.
Romans 1:25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
Unfortunately, many decide who God should be and how He should behave. Or they decide He can’t possibly exist because He doesn’t fit their idea of who He should be.
Another reason why people don’t see the Creator when they look at creation is because they don’t want to believe. They have exchanged the truth of God for a lie. Even though He has made it evident to them.
Romans 1:19 because that which is known about God is evident within them, for God made it evident to them.
All people have some understanding of God through creation. When someone doesn’t want to believe it, they suppress the truth. They choose to worship the things God created instead of worshiping God Himself.
And they would rather set themselves up to be their own god.
However, those who worship the Creator will know He is the One who made the world.

Final Thoughts
So, as you can see, being around God’s creation causes me to worship Him as the Creator.
How about you? What moves you to worship God the Creator?
Is it something in nature? Reading Scripture passages such as Job 38-42:6? Singing about God and His creation with or without other believers? Or something else?
And how do you worship?
Are you thankful, praising Him for what He made? Do you recognize His eternal power and divine nature? And do you see Him as Elohim?
How do you see yourself or anything else God created? Hopefully, you know the difference between the Creator and the created.
Or maybe you need to figure it out. You have questions about God and why it matters. You’re not even sure if you’re going to heaven.
In that case, salvation and knowing where you will spend eternity are of utmost importance and where it begins.
